After due consideration and a lot of theoretical back and forth on social media astrophotography groups, I decided to mount my ASIAIR Plus along the side the saddle plate of my AM5N. I have heard many people, politely giving me warnings about how the AIR would strike the tripod, but after testing, I think I have a good setup. I have run the RedCat on several occasions (it is relatively new to me) and have not had any issues with cable snags or contact with the PE200 pier extension on a TC 40 tripod.
The idea being able to swap between my RedCat 51 APO and my Edge HD8 SCT (configured for F7 and an OAG). I only have one ASIAIR and have found that changing the AIR from one OTA to the other, could lead to possible problems with wear and tear or possibly dropping the unit.
With this setup, all I need to do is unplug 3 cables, swap the OTA, connect the cables and be back up and running. I will, in time, probably get a second AIR but this works for the present and reduces the clutter atop each OTA.
Just curious if anyone else has tried this and what you think about its functionality?
