Hello everyone! Here is an equipment list to assist with understanding my issue: Celestron C9.25 Baader Flip Mirror ZWO ASI462 Colour Baader Zoom lens Starsense Sky Portal I want to take images of planets and the moon, along with dabbling with some easier to locate targets (M42 etc). Having had some aligning issues I bought the flip mirror to assist with centering my target on my camera using an eye piece too but unfortunately I am a complete noob and forgot about back focus. I have a 2 inch adaptor connecting my flip mirror to the scope, and then my ASI 462 attchaed the the back of the mirror with my zoom lens in the top of the mirror. Please can someone literally explain what set up I need for best back focus to use my camera with an eyepiece. Happy to send images if that helps. Please help. Adam

You don't need to worry about back focus distance, just poke the camera into the Visual back (without the eyepiece) and go. Then you can start thinking about a 1.5x barlow (or unscrewing the barlow element off a 2x and screwing it into the nosepiece of the camera).

Have a look through the FAQ (link below) for more info.

You should read the comprehensive FAQ which answers so many answers and more.

But to answer your questions now.

Typically planetary images don't use eyepiece, just barlow lens (not all cameras even require that).

Back focus is not so relevant in planetary imaging because we are using only small center portion of image where the targets are.
