Good morning

I recently updated my setup with a new guide camera: I moved from ASI 120MM-S  to the newer ASI 220MM Mini

I am seeing a major drawback as the 220MM seems unable to take exposures below 1second

If I set the Exposure at (say) 0.5 sec it simply waits forever

I am using Stellarmate at latest update/patch

I tried to replace the cable, same error

I tried to connect the camera directly to raspberry (usually it is connected to Pegasus Astro PPBA) , same error

I reboother the device, attaching the old 120MM (so same setup, same driver) and everithing works fine

I do not understand what is going on here... any idea?

thanks

Best regards

Mirko

As you posted in the EAA Forum are you trying to do EAA with this camera, or are you using it for guiding and doing AP?

I used to operate an ASI220MM for EAA with no issues, but my exposures were at least a couple of seconds and I used ASILIve.

Seeing as you're using Stellarmate - have you tried logging a support ticket with Stellarmate or asking in their Discord channel? Link here: https://stellarmate.com/support.html

I am using for guiding purposes, hence the requirement for fast exposure time.

At 1 second or above everithing works fine !

i'm having a similar problem with my ASI220mm mini.  Exposure errors below 1 second.

Strange if the camera is capped, no exposure errors < 1 sec, but what good is a capped camera? :)

i'm using the latest firmware on my asi air pro.

i've used several usb c cables - same result

i've contacted zwo, but no response yet. wondering if anyone else has experienced this and has a possible solution.

tnx

Same problem here.

It's the zwo SDK making issues.
I also talked with stellarmate support.
I also use the new zwo 220 mini and would like to take sub second exposures for my strain wave mount

------------

I opened another support ticket with Zwo. lets see

zwo wrote back and asked to test if running in autoRun and focus mode w/ sub-second exposures produce the same error occurs.

or try it with ASIStudio in the PC.

if these test produce the same error, then the camera has a problem.

I guided with the ASi220 for a few nights and it guided ok.  it's just the sub-second exposures that is a problem.

Not sure if it's worth sending it in.

----

update - ran the ASI220mm with ASIStudio on my PC and no errors with exposures < 1 second.  Camera seems fine.

ran in asiAir pro focus and autorun withh sub-second exposures and no errors.

so somehow the error has got something to do with the ASIAir pro but only in the preview mode.  strange.

they also replied to me saying, they forwarded it to the development dept.

ofc sub 1second exp. work with ASI Studio via PC. But it does not using the ZWO SDK which is used by Stellarmate, Kstars / EKos and maybe ASI Air too.

It makes no difference if i want to guide or use this camera as main imaging train for exposure. nothing below 1s works. the captures time out.

QHY or Touptek has similar Guide cams with the same sensor. But I liked the short body size and USB C port of the Zwo 220mm.

Not much help here.

"good" news.

I created a new image train profile from scratch and kept adding my gear.

and surprise - sub 1 second exposures work super nice with the asi 220m.

and stopped working when i added & connected my focuser. (primaluce lab sesto senso 2 in my case)

this can be reproduced any time. with the focuser simulator it works too.

Hey Mirko - I had some more tries today. the problem is the Pegasus Powerbox Advance I'm using as well.

I now connected the Focuser and the Zwo 220mm guidcam via the Touptek Camera 2 Port usb2.0 built in hub. and from there to the Skywatcher 150i mount usb connector into the rasbperry.

The powerbox USB Hub i dont use at all but i plugged it into another Raspberry usb port, just for trying if I get everything working  + sub 1 second exposures.

And YES -  now everything is online and stable and also the zwo 220mm delivers images with any exposure time.

Not cool - but better as before. maybe the Pocket Powerbox Micro just for power distribution and dew / heater control is the better solution.
