What's on your eyepiece wish list for 2025? Whether you've been saving up for a new eyepiece, have extra cash to blow, or just wishfully thinking, let's hear it!

My "wishful thinking" list includes the following:

Nikon NAV-HW 102° Series with EiC Tele-extender [17/14mm & 12.5/10mm]

Pentax XW 85° Series [23mm & 16.5mm]

Explore Sci 92° Series - wishing for additional focal lengths to go with the 12mm & 17mm

3mm monocentric ?

I think its called cataract surgery. About same size of lens, put essentially into the same place.

I guess that, even after two years, I don't know much at all.
I don't know what I could want, or what I'm missing. My kit:

28/82 20/100 14/82
10/82 7/100 and a
2" 2× Barlow.

Plus some lesser EPs: 6,9,15,20 redlines, 7mm excel lx, a 32mm plossl .
To me, that's a decent set.

I don't know where to go from here

I am pretty content with my eyepiece set.  But if I were to add a new one it would probably be the APM Super Zoom.

Astro-Tech 21mm UWA 82° - Already ordered and paid for. I'm hoping it's out by the end of 2024, but it looks like it may be early 2025. Should be 3mm exit pupil heaven for my 102mm f/7 refractor.

I am very content but I would like an Ultrascopic 35mm and I would not look down a T6 9mm

I would be interested in more focal lengths in the TV Apollo line.  If the A-11 stays as a solo act, then I will be happy with it, the Pentax XW85 pair, and my current Ethos.

Cheers,

Ron

Hopefully, nothing. But we know how that goes. If anything, maybe a 9T6 pair for the binoviewer/Ha solar. Or a TPL 18mm pair. But there's just no burning need.

I just bought one, a 30mm Ultima Edge. My refractors are both F/6 so I felt I could not skate by with a cheaper eyepiece. The original idea was to jump to 2" to make my refractors into their own finder-scopes. I was toying with upgrading to an Evolution mount but I've recently been doing a good job with star-hopping so I thought I'd go the less expensive manual route.

But then I thought I may as well get a good eyepiece while I'm at it. I really enjoy the views in my 32mm and 40mm 1.25 Plossls so I felt there's a good chance it would be worth the money. I think whether or not I enjoy the view will depend more on light pollution and my willingness to drive however, so I'm still on the fence about it and am not opening any boxes for the moment.

If all goes well I've got my sights set on either the 18mm or 15mm Ultima. There is a hole in my lineup between 9mm and 20mm. My 20mm is a WO SWAN, but I'm unsure of the quality of this eyepiece in my F/6 refractors. Ideally I am hoping to nicely frame 1.5 to 2 degree objects such as the Pleaides or Beehive with this next eyepiece. I really prefer AFOVs between 60 and 70mm because it's the widest you can go and still see the whole field at once. And I want to push magnification as a means to combat LP.

Not thinking about any more, however you never know.  I need to checkout the AT UWA I picked up this year.

More Masuyama MOP 53s. Maybe. I'm in with the 35mm 2", the 30mm, and the 7.5mm. Tempted by the rest even though I have little need for them.

Didn't really need it but ordered as Televue 21mm Plossl just because I'm curious. Also seem to have misplaced my 20.

I am pretty well set honestly, i don't really need anything.  I am mulling around the idea of a 5mm 100 degree eyepiece, but that is hard to justify with my normal skies

I don't need anything but this is a "wish list" not a "to buy list."

The 21 mm UWA is interesting and I wonder if it will be as good as the 28mm UWA.  I do have an Orion 20mm LHD so the 21mm UWA would be redundant.

A 3.5mm Morpheus is pretty much a dream that will likely never be fulfilled.

…this is a "wish list" not a "to buy list."

wish list: TV Apollo 11, TV 2-4 zoom

buy list: I’ve been pondering getting an Ethos 10mm.  I don’t need it, as I use my Nikon HW 12.5 with the special barlow to make 10 mm.  I’ve just heard time and time again that the Ethos 10 is special.

I’m happy with my eyepieces and certainly don’t "need" any more, but no matter how many I buy, there always seems to be about 5 or 6 more on my "To Buy or at least thinking about" list hmm.gif

For the 2024 Christmas through 2025 year time period, highest on my list are:

an ES 68° 34mm

something to plug the gap between my ES82 4.7mm and 6.7mm eyepieces. It seems to me that Meade had the right idea with the 5.5mm in their corresponding 82° line. I’ve tried using various zooms to fill the gap, but the field of view is so much narrower and the views just have such a different feel to them than the ES82s that that hasn’t scratched the itch. So, I’ve been thinking about getting a second ES82 11mm to leave "permanently" 2x barlowed. A kludge for sure, but I may do it.

for something completely different, a third possibility may be an Edmund 21.5 RKE

and always on the fringes of my thoughts is getting an approx. 40mm superwide of one kind of the other

Looking at your equipment list, I see you have a 20 inch F/4.3 Starmaster along with the 17mm, 13mm and 8 mm Ethos. The Starmaster is similar to my 22 inch F4.4 Starsplitter.   I purchased the 21mm, 13mm and 8mm Ethos from a CN member.  I tried a variety of ways to avoid buying the 10 mm Ethos to fill the gap between the 13mm and 8 mm Ethos but none were really optimal.

Finally, I saw a used 10mm Ethos in the CN Classifieds for $350 shipped. Normally I would be concerned about the condition of a $350 Ethos but the seller was none other than Don Pensack so without hesitation I called Don and secured the eyepiece.

For me, the 13mm, 10mm, 8 mm turned out to be just perfect for DSOs and the 10mm is most often the right eyepiece for small galaxies and such.  I do use a Paracorr 2.

Nothing for me. Early this year, I bought three eyepieces to make a lightweight set for traveling. After the eclipse, I stopped using them and recently sold them. I am happy with my Ethos set plus 31 Nagler.
