Hi all,

Today its exactly one year since we released waveSharp1. WaveSharp2 is now available from https://github.com/CorBer/waveSharp

Some users of waveSharp (that use the "check version" feature) have had access since friday the 6th allready.

This release would not have been possible without a dedicated development-team, they literally make this project work.

I take off my hat to them.  The time they have dedicated on processing the maelstrom of mails and updates that I have directed towards them is enormous.

And they now also have worked hard to create better documentation (first concept available for download).

In alphabetical (first name) order:

  • Bill Hendler
  • Don Capone
  • Grant Blair
  • Michael Owen
  • Tony Bailey

The list of things we have updated/added is large but this is a list of the larger changes:

  •     python is used for most calculations
  •     the default colour-model is OKlab (see https://bottosson.gi...o/posts/oklab/)
  •     RGB balance (in the histogram) can be used with a threshold
  •     Denoising has been improved (also works for larger images and is a lot faster) and is easier to use
  •     BackGround Enhance tool allows to brighten moons around planets without affecting the planet
  •     De-Rind Tool allows to soften visible rind on the edge of planets
  •     Disable Background tool allows inspecting the image in new ways
  •     Batchprocessing allows images to be derotated/aligned based on a user choosen reference-image
  •     Animations can use pause-sections (both after the forward and after the reverse)

Have fun in using it, when new features are unclear you can find most members of the development-team also in https://www.cloudyni...netary-imaging/

When you find a bug, had a crash ...  use the Github section https://github.com/C...aveSharp/issues

cheers

Cor

Hi,

Just follow the links on https://github.com/C...eSharp/releases

In the windows Install section it simply states WaveSharp2 on windows can be installed using a specialized installer Click HERE.

Phenomenal job Cor. Looking forward to using this extensively and likely exclusively as I get better with it. Thank you for such an incredible tool.

It's teamwork, without them this would not be there.

Thanks for creating a self extracting installer file for Windows implementations, making installation much easier for the majority of users. I'm not sure why you would offer the choice of installing Python 3.10 or 3.12 without any recommendation of which one to install, is there a difference? Which one should people install?

Hi Andrew,

You can install either, I would recommend using 3.12 as that is the latest. The reason to have 2 Python versions available for (downloadable) install is that I cannot predict how windows computers behave. And we also limit the python versions to 3.9.-3.12 as the version of the Numpy Library we want to use is fixed at 1.26.4. You can use waveSharp with later python versions (3.13/3.14) probably but I cannot guarantee things will work as planned as both Numpy and the OpenCV library mention Python 3.9-3.12

cheers

Cor

Where do we ask for help on installation error messages?  Here or on Github?

Thanks

Hi

We decided to scrap rgb alignment simply due to the fact that this can better be handled by the stacking process. I've tested (in cooperation with the test team) if rgb alignment was really necessary after stacking in autostakkert. The estimates (see wavesharp 1) did not result in convincing shifts (often far less than 1 pixel). So this is currently not part of wavesharp.

Cheers
