Team,

The little knob in the picture turns, but does not rotate the telescope base. It use to work, then stopped. If I manually rotate the base, it spins the knob, but not the other way around. I guess after 45+ years sitting in a Florida garage it may just of deteriorated or I just busted it.   Can I open this thing up?  Can I fix it easily? Can I order a new knob from Celestron?

Thank you in advance for any ideas!

Rob

Is the knob anchored to the shaft?  Should be an allen screw on the knob that needs to be checked for tightness.

The knob can be simply spinning on the shaft because the set screw is loose like it has been stated. . Also the shaft of the knob is in an eccentric bushing. There is set screw that holds it in place. You can loosen the screw and then rotate the bushing so the gear on the end of the shaft will engage the large gear it drives.

Simply a loose set screw.  Never thought to look. Problem solved!

Thank you!

I am trying to make some modifications to my old orange C8.  What size allen wrenches do I need to remove the RA and Dec knobs?  I've tried both metric and SAE but everything seems to be either too big or too small.

Thanks, Greg
