I think it’s just giving time for scope to settle… people were hitting the shutter too quick and getting trailed stars
When you start capturing it goes through an initialization count. What is it actually doing ?

I just received my Dwarf 3 and did some imaging last night. I'm just blown away at how well this works. That being said, I have a few questions:
1. I couldn't find where in software I could take dark frames. On some of the demo videos on line, it is in the main navigation in the Astro Mode. Not on my version of the latest version of the iOS app. Does anyone know where on the screen it is located?
2. It appears that the stacked image the is produced is a pre-stretched jpg. That leaves few options for further processing. Is there a way to have the stacked image be a tif?

The dark menu is in the feature menu in Astro. Just click on darks and it will walk you through the process, unstretched linear files are due to be released in a new update that should drop in a day or two

So, I'm either losing my mind, or just missing something obvious. But I've been all over the Dwarf app (V 3.1.1) while running iOS 18.2 and i can't find the Darks button. I've gone into Astro Mode, opened up the Functions, then opened settings, parameters, and there's no button for darks. Here are the photos of my screen.
What am I missing?

I just went and looked just to ensure nothing had changed… so you can see where it’s suppose to be in Astro mode… the only thing I can think of is maybe you inadvertently deleted your dark folder off the sd card? Suggest going and looking to see if it’s there, if not then create new folders as named in my example screen capture

I plugged the Dwarf into my computer and there was no "Darks" folder. So, I added a folder titled "Dwarf_Dark" in the Astronomy directory. I also deleted the App from my phone and reinstalled it. Still no option for darks on the app. I sent the screen shots from the other day to Dwarf on Friday and they have not responded yet. I'll post the answer when it comes.

In the process of emptying the storage on the Dwarf 3, I deleted the Dwarf_Dark folder. I pulled all of the Dark folders over to my computer so I could grab the right one with PixInsight for stacking. As I remember the next time I did an Astro imaging session it created another (empty) Dwarf_Dark folder. I then had to create a new set of dark images for that run so I could do that session. Later I moved all the Dark folders of varying sub times and gains back into the Dwarf 3 and since then all has worked well. My learning is copy the dark folders to my computer, but do not delete them on the Dwarf 3. All the folders names with the times and gains are visible when in the Dark menu.

I never had a "Darks" icon in the software in the first place. So I have never actually taken any darks, nor have I had a Darks folder on the Dwarf device. The tech folks at Dwarf have sent me a link to a "Test" app to see if the beta will fix it. I just haven't had a moment to click through and check it out. Will update soon.

So I loaded and installed the new Beta App that the Dwarf folks sent me the link to. Still no option for Taking Darks in the Astro Mode - or anywhere else that I can find. Sent a note with a screen shot back to Dwarf Tech. Will report on what they say.

It really makes no sense if you have updated software and firmware… I can not conceive of a reason for it not to be there, do you know how to update your firmware, it’s in settings, update it and reboot

It was the firmware! I updated it and am taking DARKS as I write. That's a knuckle-headed move on my part. SHould have been the first thing I did.
Thanks to all!

Is the gain slider a straight line increase in ISO or is it exponential.
Is a ten point increase or decrease all that noticable? Haven't had enough clear skies to experiment.

I feel it’s pretty exponential from my experiments, also you can introduce noise by getting it to low… kind of a banding affect… I recommend between 50-70 for the majority of exposures regardless of sub time… your mileage may vary
Anybody have a firm grasp of the exposure time and gain relationship?

That sounds like something I'll test tonight. I primarily use gain 60. I know I've tried others in the past, but I don't have a firm grasp on the differences. I'll probably try 10 minute exposures at 60, 70, 80, and 90 and post the results tomorrow. Wish me luck. It's clear at the moment.

My tests were inconclusive. Higher gains SEEMED to be noisier, but it was hard to tell. It's supposed to be clear tomorrow night so I'll probably try some other things.

Hi All-
Does anyone know how to enter an object into the Dwarf app if it’s not preloaded? I have a relatively limited piece of the sky that is unobstructed and I’d like to experiment with some less popular targets.
thanks in advance.

Open the atlas and click search, if you don't find what you're looking for you can add it. In the upper right you should see a + sign. You can add by entering the right Ascension and Declination of the object.

There are two ways to enter RA/DEC of an object:
1) Go to the Atlas. Select the search magnifier. Press the + sign in the upper right corner. Enter coordinates.
2) In the Scheduler press the + sign in the lower right corner. Select Input Coordinates. Enter coordinates.
