Wizard Nebula, ~10 hours worth of 20s exposures, stacked in Siril

wizard nebula

This one was a real struggle. I figured that the 1750 subs would be enough to get a clear picture, but I had to do a lot of tinkering to get anything decent out of this stack.

The Veils ~ lovely as always. They are kind of like the Wild Duck cluster - just can't get enough.  I can't remember if I had to tilt my mosaic, probably, but I left them like this because I do think this was more or less the orientation in the sky in the wee hours over a month or so ago.  At any rate, I like the way they are stacked here.  Processed from fit, PI,Topaz.

My small batch of M20 subs. 76x60sec processed with Siril, Grax, and GIMP under Bortle 8/9 skies. GIMP is a whole new beast for me to learn.gallery_512739_29578_258809.jpg

I think it's fun to see how my processing has changed in a short period of time. Both of these are the same stack of subs, processed in the same software, everything the same except the loose nut behind the keyboard. Top is my first attempt at it, bottom is my latest just a week or so later. M13

Thanks. I was surprised that came out. I did a little blue saturation in Lightroom.

I have been interested in capturing SH2-129 Bat/Squid ever since I got my SS50 without much luck, even with mosaic. Origin will bring in a piece of it, but I want the whole Bat. SS30 is ideal for this object. This image isn't great, but it's encouraging.  This was 9 hours of mosaic, 3 separate 'final fits' stacked together in PI.  Shows me that I'm going to need one heck of a lot more to grab Squid (maybe).  I will have to start over because, sadly, I did not save the "Plan" that would have the exact framing.  Also interesting, and maybe someone else knows, the blue "Iris-type" nebulosity below the Flying Bat.......mosquito nebula?

Bubble Nebula

Bubble Nebula, NGC7635 (2.5 hours / 20 sec. subs)

Still struggling with stars. They're messy and a bit blobby (I'm trying to tighten them using GraXpert deconvolution, but I'm not super happy with how they come out).

Reprocessed my Cygnus Wall, and finally - for the first time - managed to create something resembling the Hubble palette.

Great.

Maybe trying to extract them before noise reduction and stretching, treat them appart and re-screen them.

Ah yes, that's something I haven't tried yet - denoising just the non-stellar bits. Will try that waytogo.gif

I needed to fill some time between 11-1am, when my nebula targets are coming into view over the house/trees, so I set on M51. 1621frames, x2Drizzle in PI, Topaz.

Well, I just received my S30 and had a somewhat clear eve for a few hours and the best I got was M27. 90 images@10 sec. And the result is quite nice. A cropped shot. The stars are a little oblong, but you can make out the center of the nebula, it's motivation. I'll have to try this with the S50 to compare, and then my big rig. I kept most of the stars out, I didn't want them to overwhelm the shot.

Took my Seestar S30 on holiday to Bortle 4 skies in Western Greece. Left it out on the hotel balcony and let it do its thing.

In alt/az mode as it's annoyingly impossible to get a SkyWatcher wedge at the moment (want a SW wedge to use with my SW scopes as well), but pleased with the results all processed in PI.

Question about Pixinsight. Am I wrong to feel that I have added non authentic data by using Spectrophotometric Colour Calibration?

Stick a Fork in the Flying Bat/Squid because it's done.  Well, as done as it's going to get with the SS30 and my skill level at least.  5 stacked mosaic masters, 5hrs each (SS time), about 9-10hours integration, PI, Topaz.  No matter how I tried, I simply can't wrap my fingers around the squid.  I can see a "blank" outline where it should be, but I think I'd need a different filter (from what I'm reading) and much better processing skills.  But, it is the best I've gotten after many tries.

Well roasted indeed smile.gif  !

With our S30/S50s we need much more integration time, probably over 20 hours in a bortle 3 sky to reveal a bit of squid.

Plus we don’t have cooled sensors, this kills the signal structure that is hardly above noise.

I would go for 30hours in good skies. It is pure OIII so between green and blue channels, maybe an Optolong L-Extreme 7 nanometers could help isolate it (the Seestar LP is 30 nanometers in that range) ?
