I used the individual FITS files and stacked them.  My understanding of the adjustments during enhancing, including denoise, is that they only affect the final jpg and possibly the final pre-stacked FITS file stored internally and the jpg downloaded to your tablet/phone.

The above was the best I could do while keeping artifacts to a minimum.

Decisions, decisions…

I never, ever keep or use the fits files, so I can't tell you. I just stack em in the built in stacker, denoise / edit, works great for me and doesn't take too long. I am happy with the results most times, I don't want professional grade like many, lol.  PS:  How will you ever know unless you try a different procedure in order to compare.

I tried to pull more detail out of the Witch Head using Siril.  Clearly I need a good deal more data.

1:57.11 in, I got 1:16.10 actual capture time on M42. Seestar AI and some tweaking on iPhone, this came out. My Seestar has some tilt, especially top left side, but thanks to generous FOV, I just cropped it out.

The autofocus is spot on at least. I put on a Bahtinov mask after autofocus to see if it is accurate or not. Pleased that’s one part I don’t have to manually check every time!

A nice and colorful open cluster in Monoceros that is often overlooked. Imaged with the Seestar S30 from Vienna city center with 1h unfiltered total exposure. Onboard FITS stack processed with Siril, Graxpert and PS. Limiting magnitude 16mag.

I find with many objects you don't need Mosaic entirely or just minimal settings, when using the S30. But lets not forget Denoise.

I totally agree with that statement. Other than the auto ficus issue it's easy to set up and just let it go.

I used my S30 last nite for 5 hrs at -22° C, when I started it AF perfectly for the whole night. Never had to touch it at all.

Finally a clear night! I ran my S30 for three hours at -19C until clouds rolled in - it went from 100% charge to 14% in that time so not bad compared to my DSLR which absolutely requires external power in the cold.  I got one hour integrations of M42 and the Horsehead - here are final frames and denoised frames.  The denoised frames are certainly pleasing.  I powered it down before coming inside and left it to dry out overnight - the metal of the Skywatcher AZ GTi tripod I'm using was so cold it burned my fingers so of course once I brought it in the whole thing frosted up.

This is using the LP Filter so that might be why the images are redder than I'd expect. It would seem that the imager is red sensitive so using the IR cut filter instead might tone down the redness. Once I get the data downloaded I'll run it through APP so I can adjust the color balance etc.

Why do all images have to be bright, glaring and in your face contrary to low power, widefield telescopes, eh  Not with the very capable S30 they sure as h*ll don't, ya think.  Even with poor ice crystalee skies at -23° C. Oh and with denoise and about 10 min of internal editing, right.

That's why I always save the source images. It's cheap insurance if I want to restack them. They are calibrated, but not enhanced, so you can process them as needed. I rarely restack my images as I generally like the Seestar processing for what I use them for (often EAA type observing and patrol images). It's nice to have options.

As soon as I have stacked I delete them.  Why would you want to redo them, just start from scratch and do it again, ya think.  They will still be there, eh.

You save the images because next time you want to collect data on the object your can stack the old and new images for more data. Deleting subs is false economy, disk is cheap, time is precious.

Its not false economy for me, I never mentioned that, I don't hide anything like some might.  The fact of that is I never intend to use them one on top of the other, ever.  But I say go for it, eh. I posted my question because you never mentioned pileing them up, I think you mentioned redoing them.

And, as I have found, the stacking software improves over time, your skills and understanding also improve.

I have restacked older files and discovered much better data.

Last nite at -8° C under not great skys. NGC2244 surrounded by the Rosette Nebula.  I was stupified at what I got, towards the end this S30 was literally shooting through some pretty solid clouds, sure the rate dropped right down but it was still adding to the pile albeit much slower. A guick internal edit after denoise but no mosaic, I like how it takes in the full object ie low power, widefield, suits my astronomy perfectly.  I really like the 20 sec. imaging. If you want to bump up the image size try the new cropping feature thats part of the denoise app, it has 4-5 sizes to choose from.

Even after 31 min M109 was drownded out by nearby star Phecda in Ursa Major.  Skies were not the best at -23° C and ice crystals. Not a good image but I thought I would show it anyway, guess I am bored with the poor quality I see above my head, lol.  You can just see it if you look hard enough.

Last nite, -20° C, ice crystals filling the air, no air movement, spent about 4 hrs with the heater goin'.  Caught IC 443 the Jellyfish Nebula and NGC 3184 the Little Pinwheel Galaxy and M 106. Best I can do under the constant poor skizes.  PS:  10 min each touchup in Lr.  PPS:  As I said I love denoise and I really like the widefield views.  PPPS:  And I am using the new Cropping feature more and more, that is part of the Denoise app built into the SS's.

What a great thread to read.  I’ve been a visual observer for many years and the S30 is my first stab at shooting the sky.  Looking forward to reading and learning more from you all. Can’t wait until it arrives some time in March.
