When I was a kid, I remember drooling over these in the Edmund catalog.  Perhaps it was something about the catalog picture of a couple of kids by the telescope (under a light polluted sky):

Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Meade 395 with EQ mount in original box.  The ad says new but it appears to have been assembled at one point because the EQ head appears to be attached to the OTA while it sits in the box. I've been watching this but I have enough scopes.  Price dropped from $100 to $75.

The C8 looks to be in great shape. The asking price isn't outrageous for a fully functional, time tested scope in excellent condition. They t'ain't make'n 'em no more.

Value is in the eyes of the beholder.

I had a 395 OTA.  It gave pretty good views.  I don't think I've ever seen one in its box.  Easily worth 75.

Although that mount is functional (not terrible), it is by far the ugliest mount ever created under Galileo's starry dome. It looks like a praying mantis with a goiter. But hey, it works fine :)

Attention Garyth64, this is the 76/1200mm original 3" AO Sears telescope - dig that crinkle finish on the mount! That's a winner, despite the jumble of pieces.

This thing looks pretty old and uses a kind of Newtonian stalk mount for the Cassegrain secondary.

Large lens. Not sure what else is needed in order to make it a complete ATM project but it sure is big.

Doubtful it's a useful telescope objective. Don't know anything about it other than one side is very convex.

It's certainly a lens, but a telescope lens? Highly doubtful. I wonder what it came out of.

Don't ever spend 300 bucks on one of those. Get the 6" version for less. PM, I know where one or two 6" for less are located, red OTA on that mount. An Edmund 6" on grey pier or a Criterion RV-6 would beat that red 4.5" OTA as well as that version of beige Edmund mount.

Nice Deal for $75 for the Meade 395  90mm on GEM, if it's all there and nice.

When I saw it posted here, I thought, wow, I might try for it.  But it's pick up only.  It is identical to my Tower 6335, (but in much better shape.)

How did I miss it on Ebay?  I try and check twice every day.

They offer Pick-up but also list a shipping charge via Fed-ex. I don't know if it's a flat charge regardless of destination or linked to my zipcode. I conclude they will sell by either option. I also was temped since I have one. I don't need another.

I have a 395 OTA in my closet. I cannibalized the VB for another scope and it's an odd O.D. that I haven't been able to replace, so it doesn't get any use.

Just scanned Goodwill online and all the telescopes of interest are pickup only.

Many cheap 60 and 70 can be shipped but not the nice classics.

Luckily? for me the all too many here were bought when GW still shipped.

It's a condenser lens.  Could have come from a large photo enlarger.

Says it came from NASA and is 16" in diameter. So not from a normal photo enlarger. I suppose it could have been used in an enlarger for very large negatives (e.g., the KH-9 returns). Seems to have multiple elements. But I agree it's not for a telescope.

Don't ever spend 300 bucks on one of those.

Here's a nice white tube version for 50 bucks:
https://www.facebook...890843379930356

Still, there's something kinda special about those old red tube models.

Yes that's pretty obviously a condenser, but I could not imagine anything at that scale.

I've seen some cameras that were for large scale film (3ft wide, etc) used in old art departments, but it could have been from any kind of custom large-scale optical set-up.

This old Tasco is still available for cheap in Charleston, SC:

https://shopgoodwill.../item/220098747

I have listed this scope a couple times before, and I've lost count how many time GW has relisted it.  As of now there's only a couple hours left on the bidding, and there are no bids once again.  The problem, that I've mentioned to them, is that it is pick up only.

I fear, with the low price they have put on it, and they haven't gotten a single bid, that they may just decide to throw it away, and that would be a shame.
