So I've been wondering if anyone has fit an Evolution 8 HD Tube and mount into a pelican 1650 case and if it'll also hold the diagonal and starsense module easily. Wanted to double check before committing to spending the $ for it :)

I have an 8" edge HD, and a ZWO mount.  The Pelican case is too shallow and has no tie downs in it.  I also tried the Magic Line Studio trolley case..

https://www.amazon.c...P1F&gQT=1&th=1

It fit the scope and a bunch of ancillary equipment but then became too heavy and awkward to carry upstairs and such.

Settled on getting the celestron case for the OTA https://www.bhphotov..._8_9_25_11.html

AMBITFUL Widened Version Tripod Carrying Case Bag is used to the mount and then a separate Original Gig Bag - Heavy Duty Dj Bag for all of the accessories.  It does mean multiple trips to carry everything, but much more manageable.

I would think that any case that can carry the OTA and the mount would be too un-wiedly to be carried,

What you are doing is the right way to go but I would not put the mount in with the scope myself I would keep it separate.

Pelican cases are sealed so you can take your scope from a warm room to the cold outside and slowly let it cool down and vise verse with no fear of condensation on the scope. But don't pack away a wet scope into a sealed box.

I buy them filled with customisable foam, there are many sizes to choose from.

Thanks, Any reason not to keep the scope and mount in the same case (other than weight)? I think I can still handle that weight as long as the tripod isn't in play. I'm often taking the whole assembly in and out anyway for home viewing.

Good point on the wet scope, I plan to keep a bunch of those silica packets in since I know foam can retain a lot of moisture which is a bad formula in a sealed case.

are you sure the pelican case is too shallow? Sounds like from others it does fit? I would def get it with the pluck foam to have it customized for both items.

The case the scope is stored in needs to be completely dry at all times, don't rely on silica packets though by all means use them.

If there is even slight moisture in the case keep it open until it is completely dry.

Even if weight is not a issue I would remove the scope from the mount, but it's your call, if the case is knocked what stress is put on the delicate goods inside if connected together?

good advice on the moisture.

I think I just wanted to store the case and mount in the same box, but they would be detached. Kind of like how this user did (but they did not have the 8 HD version) though I think the dimensions are the same?

After looking at the images above it looks like there is no padding for the vixen mount part at the bottom so I am assuming it's a pretty tight fit. I think there is about an inch of clearance from the tube dimensions. This has me wondering if it's worth it since the case is so pricey.

Maybe I should just go with a generic storage tub and throw in a bunch of foam or a blanket since I don't plan on traveling far by car with it when I transport it.
