Hi all,

Looking at taking a trip to Big Cypress at the end of March for the New Moon Weekend. I'm not sure if any of the clubs in the area are holding an annual star party or a New Moon Weekend observing session. Also, not sure how the hurricanes affected the grounds. I checked out a few of the clubs in South Florida, but they either don't have anything on their calendars, or they don't have a calendar.

Has anyone been there recently? If so, what are the conditions? Any particular part of the park good for visual observing and staying a night or two? I've never been there before, and the NPS website lacks detail for my needs. They are, however, planning to hold "Presentations [that] will include constellation tours and telescope viewing (weather permitting) of astronomical objects including stars, star clusters, planets, nebulae, and galaxies."

Thanks in advance!

There are some areas in Big Cypress along the Tamiami trail that are good for visual observing that may not have a lot of bugs in March such as Monument Lake Campground or Kirby Storter Roadside Park…..probably  Bortle zones 2 or 3
To the South in the Everglades National Park there are also a lot of dark locations such as Pahokee, Mahogany hammock, Flamingo etc, all of them are Bortle 2 or 3.
