The Spring Staunton River Star Party registration is OPEN. The dates are March 24th - 30th.

Go to www.stauntonriver-starparty.org to register.

Questions? Send an email to stauntonriverstarparty@gmail.com

We are in our fourteenth year, 27th event, and we're looking forward to seeing all of our good friends and meeting new ones.

The Staunton River Star Party is held at Staunton River State Park in Scottsburg, Virginia. This park is the 25th IDA Dark Park in the world. We are proud to have been a big part of assisting in this achievement. The park is located in the south central part of the state near South Boston, Virginia near the Virginia, North Carolina boarder.

Staunton River State Park has a wide open field that give amateur astronomers good horizons to view the night sky. It offers some of the last remaining dark skies on the east coast. The Milky Way is easily seen at the park. Power is available on the field for equipment at night and recharging batteries during the day. Camping on the field is permitted. There are also camp sites just across the road, with camper hookups and powered camp grounds.

We have StarLink as our internet provider. We can't beat Elon, might as well use his network. Basically, it just works.

The park staff are looking forward to our return. The Staff at the park are the best. They insure our stay at the park is a pleasant one, and they go out of their way to fill any needs.

The park also runs the "Deep Space Diner". The Diner offer breakfast, lunch and Dinner. Depending on the staffing, the Diner remains open until Midnight and is open through out the day. The Diner offers the "Bottomless Coffee Cup". You can fill with any beverage they offer, less canned sodas. They also make the best omelets. (Mmm, Mmm Good!)

The park also offer the "ISS", (Inside Snack Station), which offers coffee and snacks throughout the night when the Diner isn't open. It's also a warm place in the event of cold weather.

There are also HOT showers available near the DSD.

If you have any questions, you can email stauntonriverstarparty@gmail.com.

We are excited once again to see you at the 2025 Spring Staunton River Star Party.

Clear skies everyone,

Doug Lively and I will be presenting “An Introduction to EAA.”  We also hope to run a 30 min workshop on:

  • Livestacking with the application SharpCap
  • EAA with a SeeStar

I will have source data for everyone to use for during the SharpCap portion of the workshop.  Link to SharpCap: https://www.sharpcap...rike></strike>.  You can download the application for free and use most options without upgrading to the pro version.

Greetings,

Well, registration has closed and we have 91 star party attendees coming not including significant and immediate family members. So we're about 125+ in all.

This is the best turn out we've ever had for a spring event. We're looking forward to a great week.

Do note that the Deep Space Diner will not be opening until around 4pm. So eat before you get there if you are coming on Monday. The Diner will be opening at 8am and closing at 12am.

The park staff are excited that we are heading in their direction. It's always great to be there and hanging out with everyone. We have folks from Florida to New York. Even folks from West Virginia.

Everyone drive safely and we'll see you soon.

Clear skies,

Jayme Hanzak

I hear the party has a mascot - something about a bird's nest.

Sorry I can't make it this year.
