And we do lose a lot of heat through our head, so an excellent hat is very, very important. An old saying for winter camping is that if you feet are cold, put on a hat. I've always meant to get one of those big bomber hats with the flaps, but haven't gotten around to it. I have a fleece helmet sort of hat which protects the back of my neck well and then pull up the hood of the down jacket, but the hood doesn't really mesh in with the sides of my face as well as could be ideal. I should look for a bomber hat onsale now that spring is coming.

Well, I say that spring is coming, but here in Vermont we got 4 plus inches overnight and it's going to snow and/or sleet all day. Almost two feet of snow on the ground at the moment. I've got some shoveling to do up at the observing spot in the field out behind the house.
