A guy near me is selling a CPC 800. This is the picture of the objective, and I circled some areas that seem concerning. Is this mold? If so, should I pass on it at $1000?

It looks as though it could be water spots or mold.  I don't think I'd try to clean it without the proper cleaning solution.

Yes mold.  At $1000 I would pass.  It could be cleaned, but would be a lot of work to clean all surfaces. I'm assuming it is internal, though it is hard to tell from the pics.  Really need to see it in person.

Could be mold, could be water spots on that corrector plate. It would take a closer examination to determine. I'd be more concerned about the condition of the mirrors. If the mirrors are clear then it's most likely water spots.

I'm not sure I'd want to pay $1,000.00 for an older, non-Fastar ready unit. I'd want to ascertain the GPS, motors and hand control all function properly, then try to get it for $800.00 if possible.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I'm going to look at it tomorrow and give it a thorough inspection. If the gps, motors, and hand control all work I'll make an offer.

There are several YouTube videos on how to remove and clean a SCT corrector plate if you buy it. Also look for a desiccant cap such as this one. https://agenaastro.c...ca_s_model=6456

Good luck.
