Io's shadow will begin to transit Jupiter at 0:52 UT (7:52 p.m. EST).

Sunday, February 2, 2025

00:52 UT, Io's shadow begins to cross Jupiter.
01:54 UT, Io ends transit of Jupiter.
03:06 UT, Io's shadow leaves Jupiter's disk.

Thanks for the heads up.  Unfortunately, it ain't gonna work in T-town.  Our sunny day turned into a cloudy night.  I was prepared to watch an ISS "conjunction" with Saturn in about 7 minutes but I can barely see the crescent moon through the cloud cover.  Dang it!

Cleared off now.  I can clearly see Luna and Venus.  Can't see Saturn.  All are dipping close to across the street neighbor's house.  Dang it again.

Just caught it as well as Europa's occultation. Wasn't expecting it as I was out doing lunar tonight

I caught it by happy accident. It was unusually still here, and I was even able to capture it afocally through the EP of my C8, which I usually can’t do:

I observed the transit using the Naylor Observatory's 17" f/15 classical Cassegrain at 216 x (2" 30mm Explore Scientific 70-degree eyepiece).
