Received my Edscorp 8.4 - 21mm zoom ep today.

Bought it sight unseen on the lens but body looked good & seller said it was turning.

It's in very good condition.

Turn smoothly & the center extends from 8.4 to 21mm

Lens are clear & had some dust but nothing major.

Raining again & was busy with work all day so have not gotten a chance to get to work with my new ETX 90.

This compliments the orig MEade 4000 26mm Super Plossl that came with it.

From what I can research this is an old ep maybe 1970?

Anyone have it care to comment on the quality of the optics.

Hoping it's better than Sbvony Zoom as it was about 2X the cost but it takes the place of 5 ep's

21, 17, 14, 10.5, 8.4

I hope its not too long! It's going to be too long isn't it???

Will it work on a D80 X F480mm f6 if I get one in that range?

Now do I have a Meade Triplet #140 & this that might not work in the ETX 90???confused1.gif

Thanks, went through them all, some I had seen esp the Criterion that might have been made for

BL Bausch & Lomb?

Fact is they were not cheap ep as in 1969 they were $26.50 described as wide field, orthoscopic, chromatic & spherical.

OregonStarGazer/ Diane Just sent me the Carton Manual & a few bonus.

The University Optics catalog Anne Arbor MI Looks 70's

has an ad for the zoom in exploded diagram...

They look like they were made by the same factory or are very similar.

It’s a very interesting eyepiece.

One thing that stands out is that the 30°-40° field of view indicated in the advertisement is pretty narrow. I also expect that coating technology has improved in the past fifty-five years or so, so it might not be as bright as a modern zoom at the same focal lengths. The proof is in the viewing so I’ll be interested in what you think of it after you’ve used it a bit. If it doesn’t meet expectations the SvBony SV135 40°- 57° zoom works great and is affordable.

It doesn't seem that narrow.. I compared it to a 10mm plossl last night trying to get it at 10mm. They didn't seem that much different. I want to say it's 40' but not 30' (I really don't knwo how to calculate it so I am just comparing it to the 10mm.

I was trying to evaluate it now that I have more ep but it's very sharp though my eyes are not that good it's still relative that counts.

10mm Plossl would be 48' -50'?

The 8.4-21 zoom lens is wider than the 10mm.

Mine is an Edscorp though with the Y in a circle not a University. There were a few made & they had variations in the turning barrel.

It still works & isn't dry though a few times I had to back it out & then turn it down but it's 50 plus yo zoom.
