I use an AT72EDii with the ATFR72 flattener reducer for astrophotography. I'd like to find a 1x flattener to narrow the field of view for smaller targets. Will any flattener for a scope of similar focal ratio work or is there more to it than that? Thanks!

I currently use an Explore Scientific 2-inch Field Flattener # FFEDAPO-00 with my Stellarvue SV70T 70mm f/6 scope, and it has performed flawlessly for the past six years. That flattener is no longer available, and has been replaced by ES-FF2F5/F7:

I would definitely give it a try.

The TSFLAT2 is a 1x Field Flattener with a lot of backfocus.

The Hotech 2” SCA Self-Centering Field Flattener might be worth a look. It’ll work with F5 - F8.

Hi,

I would look for a "SKY ROVER 1x Field Flattener for 72 ED APO Telescope Astronomy Accessory for Observing M54 and M48 Interface"   from the usual overseas sources.   I have found that Sky Rover flatteners play well with Astro Tech telescopes.

Astronomics has been bringing in more 1x flattener for their products.   It may be worth a call to see if they have one in the works for the 72EDii.

I have not been happy with my TSFLAT2.

Peter
