Long story short.

I bought a celestron 6" evolution. Product came with a defective OTA. Celestron agreed to just replace the OTA, but then the replacement that came had a minor defect. They then upgraded me to an 8" OTA and let me keep the 6" also.

I now need a cheap mount and tripod setup for this 6" tube.

Any suggestions?

If you want cheap, SE mounts are often available here on CN Classifieds. An SE can sling a C6. The SE isn't as robust as the Evolution, but it is less expensive and lighter in weight.

If you can afford it see if you can find an HEQ5. I have the Orion Sirius Pro (Same as SW HEQ5) and it handles my Meade 8" SCT just fine.  Its a good mount and can sometimes be found for a reasonable price on the classified online.

Do you want an Equatorial mount or Alt-Az mount?  A budget will be nice also, or you will get recommendations for every mount available.

Equatorial mounts are best when tracking is needed (imaging) and many people prefer Alt-Az for visual due to ease of use.

(This is a very generalized statement and not gospel, you can use either mount for both... I know how you guy's are )

That all black variant looks so sick! Just sayin.

Not cheap but an AZ8 would work, if you're into Alt-Az.

I use a Sky Watcher AZ-Gti with my smaller OTAs including a C5/C6. Works well for visual. Do not do any AP with it. Mostly grab and go setup

A great setup for. C6 is the well renowned cg4 with an RA motor drive. Another option is the twilight 1 for an unpowered alt az with lighter weight. Right now my C6 is sitting on a very lightweight Bogen 3026 tripod and a svbony 225 alt az mount. Very lightweight, sturdy and portable. Lucky you to get a free C6!!

I am looking for Alt-Az mount and tripod. I'd prefer to spend less than $300.
