One of the threads here on CN that is on my short list of threads that I read every time I check in is the “Craigslist, eBay, and other vintage classic telescope ads” thread over in the Classic Scopes section. I thought it would be a good idea to start a similar thread here in the books section. It’s a thread for sharing ads for deals you find, whether it be a book sale at Barnes and Noble or an individual book listed on eBay for a good price. So, if you find any deals while searching your favorite haunts, please share them here. Amazon, eBay, Craigslist, Marketplace, the App Store, the CN classifieds, Abe books, it doesn’t matter. See an app on sale, share it. Find a sale on an Astronomy magazine subscription, share it. Find a good deal on Amazon, share it. Springer having a sale, post it. Someone on Craigslist or Marketplace downsizing, share it. Find a deal on a minty fresh set of Burnham’s hardcovers on eBay and you actually contemplated buying them even though you somehow already have 3 sets, post them.
Well, you get the picture. So please share, and remember that helping others spend their money is almost as good as spending your own.

These are all triangulation fraud sellers.

In other words, you’ll get the book, the fraudster will get some money, and Shop at Sky will get robbed.

How were you able to determine this, regarding these eBay sellers?

Mostly common sense. People have reported in other threads these ship from the same places books from Shop At Sky ship from, and confirmed with shopatsky that they don't have a discount program like this.

It has been an ongoing issue with Shop At Sky items showing up on E-Bay. See the William Bell thread for extensive details.

Shop At Sky confirmed they have no distribution channels and no discounts available for anyone either. So these listings are being sold at a loss, which is exactly what triangulation fraud sellers do.

Also, some of us placed orders before it was clear what was going on and the items were in fact sent from Shop At Sky and the packing lists included showed a different name as is the case for triangulation fraud. And of course that alone (drop ship listings) are a violation of EBay terms of service.

I had no idea, never heard of such a scam. Thanks for sharing this information.

Yeah, it is a subtle one!  And unfortunately the credit card companies seem to be doing little to stamp it out as the cost largely falls on retailers rather than the credit card company.

By the way, the Interstellarum Deep Sky Guide is now sold out at The Space Store as it appears I purchased the last copy.  Thanks for the link!

Good pick up, I paid way more for my copy last year.

Yeah this is probably a good time to remind everyone that when a deal seems too good to be true, it's highly likely to be too good to be true. We live in an era of online seamsters big and small. It's helpful to share good deals, but caveat emptor.

Be aware that this is a paperback PoD version of the book.  It is good quality, but the pictures definitely don't look like they would in the full cost hardback version.
