Greetings,

I was imaging M51 the other night with a SV 102ED and ASI585MC camera. When I stretch the image I get space worms.

What causes this. Other objects imaged that night are free of these, but this was the last target of the night. The red arch comes from a too close street light. Thoughts?

They are dust shadows.  Are you using flats?

Walking noise (not dithering), no flats, close to a full Moon and fogging on the optics.

Looks like dust on the optics is being shown due to the nearby light pollution. What do your flats look like? Are these in each individual image or just show up after the stacking?

My Momma told me at an early age that if I did not wash my hands, I would get worms.

And it worked. I wash my hands, and I hardly ever get worms.

Sprinkle some sevin dust around the mount.

Takes care of 150 insects. Probably does Space Worms, too.

(Did you know Lysol killed covid before there was covid? What did they know?)

OK, I goin with "Operator Error".

Actually, I didn't take flats that night. The nearby streetlamp probably lit up dust, or it was wet that night, so a drop might have hit the outer lens.

Once we get the second night of clear sky this year I will try again, with flats this time.

Thanks everyone.

Death to space worms. Dither...dither...take that!
