Ugh, that’s the worst.

Yes it was. Thanks. Read my reply to the other offended person.

Peace.

Rarest ??

Perhaps the original Pronto 70mm F/6.4(iirc). My most precious brochure.

R.I.P. Pronto stolen after half a dozen views.

I had what I thought was an issue with my NP101 so when I phoned Televue directly to their head office they put me right over to Al Nagler himself, we talked about my question for maybe a half hour between he and his right hand man, a three way, his final recommendation was to keep on using / enjoying the scope just the way it was. There was no issue, lol !  A great guy, quite soft spoken, he talked like I was one of the boys, my mind was satisfied and the scope never skipped a beat to this day.  PS:  It was like talking to a God, my most remembered phone call, lol !

What do Y'all think of the NP101is??  A used one was on my short list (4) of 4" APOs before I bought my FC-100.  That's the closest I've come to buying a TV scope.  But... I lurv the eyepieces!

No modern TV Petzvals for me. My 1990 Genesis is OK, but reports of the NPs collimation issues, dissuaded me from ever buying one.

What was the imagined issue? One of the great things about optics is that nothing is left to the imagination. Now, a focuser glitch - that's different.

Your Genesis has the same possible issue but you probably won't see it because at high powers, the optics are not that good.

I bought mine, knowing that the previous owner had messed with the collimation.  At 310x, I could see the diffraction rings were not perfectly even.  I was not afraid to collimate it.  It wasn't that difficult, I built a simple jig to collimate.  Apparently TeleVue doesn't use a jig, they do it by hand.  The jig made it easy.

That was nearly 15 years ago.  20,000 miles in the back of a pickup, the scope and mount tumbling and hitting the objective end first, it's still in collimation.

I would be more worried about a triplet.

I  had the TV Oracle    loved it.  cemented triplet    great heavy duty build and feel.,   Sold it eventually to fund other purchases      then  had a chance to buy it back and I did,,,

Finally, sold it again along with the Vixen 80mmFL  to fund a special Red "F " model  Tak FC 76

I had them all together for a day or so before sending the Oracle to its new owner   and the Vixen80FL went to one of us here

I believe to and from me!

recently lucked into a renaissance with TV panoramic mount, tripod, barlow and eyepiece and what appears to be a TV 2" diagonal.  I was shocked it was still available when I called the guy.  Stupid low price.  I even told the guy what is was worth and he still gave it to me at the listed price.   Been cloudy and my wife has issues that need my attention.  Might be a week or so before I get to try it out.

Yes.   Seemed like a smoking deal.  I could not resist.  When I did not hear back for a couple of days I encouraged others to call him, but then I heard back from him and the deal was on.   I used pay pal to send the cash straight away.

the only thing it needs is the brass tube buffed out.  everything else looks great.  Deal of the century.

My Genesis is the original, never had a problem with it.  I get great high power views with a Nagler 4.8  and a 2.4x Dakin  Barlow,.  but its wide field views are its strongest asset.  Bonco 2

Some rough numbers:

Pronto  2002-2006 Sold to Atilla Danko

NP-101 2010-

Ranger  2020-2021 Given to friend

Ranger  2024-  Not sure how long I'll keep it. I'm liking my AT-70ED.

Jon

Ranger #2 on it's way to New Jersey.  It's a fine scope, unique in its design and beautifully built. But the AT-70ED is not much heavier, has a 2 inch focuser and ED optics.

The Ranger seemed like it would just sit on the shelf unused. I was trying to figure out who to give it to, it's too nice just to sell, I wanted a friend to have it.

It should be there tomorrow.

Jon
