Anyone have a good recommendation for a new tripod for the Star Adventurer GTI + pier extension? I used the tripod that came with it from Sky Watcher, but the spreader broke and it’s too flimsy as is. I like it with the pier extension because I’m 6ft and I don’t have to bend over as much, but the stock tripod is just really lacking in rigidity when locked in and I suspect causing guiding issues at times. Any recommendations?

I have used the Innorel RT90C with the GTi (for a little over a year) and found that it works quite nicely.

Any heavy-duty photographic tripod with a 3/8"-16 threaded mounting bolt will work fine with the GTi. I used mine with an old Manfrotto 75B that I found in a secondhand camera shop, before I got a Sky-Watcher tripod & pier extension for it, and I think the 75B did a better job.

For that matter, most any heavy Astro tripod system could probably be adapted to support a GTi; the only thing you need is that 3/8"-16 threaded mounting bolt. But a used photo tripod that's suitably "butch" will be cheaper.

Thanks, just ordered and will give it a shot!

Your tripod I assume (I have the black skywatcher tripod) when it's loaded up it has a lot of twisting play in it? I never noticed it when it was a bit lighter but like you said it feels a bit unsteady.

I tried the Innorel RT90C like the other guy commented and think its great, little pricey but much more sturdy
