Hi Everyone,

 

I have been using for many years my Skywatcher EQ8 with both ASIAIR and Eagle4 depending on the setup. I connect the EQ8 mount directly to ASIAR or Eagle directly as an EQmode.

 

I just bought an ASIAIR MINI as I want to travel with a small light telescope of my own, but somehow testing all connections works perfect with the exception of the mount which doesn't connect. I did configure exactly same setup in ASIAR MINI as in my good old ASIAIR but the mount doesn't connect on the MINI. I changed back and forth from ASIAIR MINI to ASIAIR to be sure , and I also switched the mount connection to the other USB ports, thinking maybe its just a USB port issue (not the case). So I am lost now.

 

Since I started the AISIAR MINI as brand new, question I might have : can I start from the beginning with an EQmode connection? I am doing something wrong.

 

Connection in ASIAIR : Interface Serial / Baud at 9600

 

I tried all the different baud , especially the 115200, but still doesn't work ...

 

What I am missing ???

I had this same issue with some mini PC’s I tried to use with my older EQ8, and it just would not connect, and turned about to be a USB port power issue, the ports were not powerful enough to power the EQMOD cable, now when I tried the newer EQ8 version with the built in USB port that would only work with a short (under 1m) USB cable, but mine was the older one so was using an EQMOD cable and would not work.

As for Baud rate, for an EQMOD cable that has to be set at 9600, you only use 115200 when connecting with a standard USB cable that the newer Skywatcher mounts have the dedicated USB port for.

so which version of the EQ8 mount do you have..?

Thanks for the feed back and indeed that could be a good reason. My EQ8 is an old one (EQ8 PRO) so no USB yet. But I also have to say that my cable is an old one which is vintage to my opinion. So if it is a USB power than maybe i should try with a new cable or you say it wont change?
