G`day guys

OK, i want to connect my `scope to my laptop to make use of the alt/az (hope thats right) controls. The company website says i need to use a Meade #07507 USB to RS-232 lead.  its a "Saturn by Meade" DS 114  `scope with a 35-4702-00 and a 35-4700-00 hand piece. My problem is that neither my scope nor my laptop have serial  ports. Can i simply use a male to male USB cord.

Cheers all

Troppo

What model Meade? Chances are you can use an RJ11 to USB cable with built-in interfacing chip, like this one.

You have a Meade DS 114 scope, a type 492 Autostar handset, and a type 497 Autostar handset.

The 497 second input is connected to the laptop USB with a USB to Serial adapter (the Meade #07507 USB to RS-232 lead) connected to a Meade #505 (not #507) cable.

There are some #505 cables that have the USB to Serial adapter built in.

Vidrazors one is a #507 for a  Autostar type II.

Right, I just did a quick search on Meade to USB cable, and the most common model came up.

Thanks for that vidrazor, might have a chance at getting it up and running soon

Yes, you simply need to search for a USB cable using the model number of your rig, such as the LX200 ACF that came up in my generic search. Once you type in your specific model number, you should find the correct interfacing cable.

OK, so in my wanderings i think i`ve had a break-through of sorts. As far as i can tell my `scope is a DS114AT and when i punch in the details which send me all over the net but one thing most of the cables have in common is having this in their titles  "Meade 505 Telescope to PC Control Cable" Is it worth trying to get one of these or is the risk of damage to the `scope or my laptop.

Cheers all
