Anyone remember Meade mounts, squarish, from 1990s?

They were likely made in China, similar in size to the CG5 mounts/Vixen Great Polaris but the body components were squareish, not rounded.

You mean the lxd 300/500?

Or the lxd 55?

Or perhaps the lxd 650/750?

Also the GEM mount in 1987 made by Mizar. It was the failed GEM version SCT to compete with the SPC8 that sold 10 times as many.

I had the LXD600 and the mount was fine but the GO-TO's did not work right.

Ive seen it written the encoders where outstanding and the pointing perfect, but the algorithm assumed perfect orthogonality.

There are a few people on here that say the lxd600 etc delivered the best pointing they ever saw.

Not mine. It would do go-to's on it's own and hit the tripod.

That's it.  MIZAR (Japan) -- white versions sold in-country.  Blue Tube versions paired with the Blue 8" SCTs, and the Rare 4" Blue Refractor.

That Blocky EQ is a dud for 8" SCTs.  My 1980s Mizar AR-1 EQ carries my '86 C8 + 60mm R/A Finder + 4-Slot Eyepiece Turret at high powers (450x) with 1 second damping from my head bumping the backplate...

Hall effect sensors instead of optical encoders. Bulletproof. Unless the mount senses the presence of Chas and decides to play games :) That's done by the Chas effect obfuscator.

I presume you told the mount the beatings will continue until morale improves.

I sold it fast. While the 127 ed was good it was not throw ya back in the seat good. Very few scopes throw me back in the seat.
