("I'm usually pretty good with 'eeny-meeny-miny-mo'....but pretty stumped here?")

SKETCHING.....BINOS.....DSO.....?

So if in doubt, GENERAL wins.

My last time here I pretty much hung my hat in the SKETCHING forums....but that was a long time.ago.

But as I renter the hobby after so much time off, I'll still be a 'visual observer.....and still lean towards sharing my renderings in the sketch department', old loves die hard.

Though instead of a big DOB this time it'll be with binoculars.

So, 'UNFINISHED BUSINESS'.......

I had done all my last viewing from my own yard, in my own observatory under predominantly NELM 6 skies.

I was a faint fuzzy enthusiast. But even though I was nestled down in my own little dark space, the glow from street lights, neighbors porch lights, a convenience store a block away....'faint fuzzies', except for an occasional odd ball were just that...faint fuzzies......even the GREAT ANDROMEDA GALAXY, though naked eye most part for me, was not definable.

So my greatest love, so close yet so far, was just out of reach.

So I began to cheat in my waning last trips to that scope....

(More than one way to skin a cat).....

I started adding a whole new meaning to the phrase STAR HOPING.....and I saw after all those years of frustration, this began to move me forward.

But life got in the way, and never did finish that long journey.
But this time touting a pair of 15X70s, and the ability to travel to an even darker site, and renewed enthusiasm, I'm excited to get back to this.

Though ironically it again makes me wait a wee longer....a NEXT fall project to be the best placed for the hunt.
A great opportunity to hone a whole new skill set before then.

STAY TUNED!

........hmmmmm, just in case you can't see my writing on that post clear enough....

I began comparing my visual observations every session to a great image I kept beside it.....instead of actually being able to 'see' the arms and structure myself, I could record stars that I could see, and start tracing them with the help of that photograph to outline where the structure was THAT I COULDN'T ACTUALLY SEE.

Welcome back, and best of luck with your binocular viewing and sketching endeavors ahead. I expect your demonstrated patience, preparation and dedication will pay off :)
