Hi everyone,

Recently I have bought an absolute bargain of a combo for €100: It included a brand new Bresser EQ5 style mount and a 102/1000mm scope.

I'm planning to use one of these mounts with SvBony SV503 80ED scope and a Canon 600d with a 30mm guiding setup for astrophotography. This setup would weight around 5-6kg, which is pretty much the limit for the IEXOS with the upgraded tripod.

Being my first ever mount, do you think I should make my own GoTo system using OnStep for the EQ5 or just get the IEXOS-100 and use it overloaded (as the OnStep might be tricky to get to work initially)?

Also, if you have any experience with using a DIY EQ5 OnStep, please share your feedback.

P.S: I guess it's worth to add that I do have a 3D printer and I do have experience with electronics and arduino.

Thanks

Go with the EQ5 you will be well within the weight limits of it.

Get a Terrans Industry Onstep V4 Pro motor kit, I guess your mount is the EXOS2, so get the EXOS 2 version, will take you less than 30 min to attach it to the mount. Costs around $150. If you really want to do your own controller later you can keep the motors pulleys belts and brackets and build your own controller.
