I didn't expect it tonight, but Io was sitting right over the GRS while I was out observing. A wonderful sight. Even my wife came out to take a look.

I really have to start looking at the scheduled events more often.

While I was out there I gave Mars some time. I'm really can see more contrast with my new diagonal.

Could you discern Io itself in front?

To be honest, I wasn't looking. I was only out for a quick "peek" and only out there for about 20 minutes. My after dinner view as I call it.

:-) This is to me really good seeing. When I can discern the small globe in front of Jupe.
Last time Io was on the SEB which made it easier.

If I may ask, what type and kind of diagonal made this improvement?

For decades I was using a mirrored diagonal with my 12" SCT. Stars were always wobbly and spikey and planetary just never came in all that good, considering the aperture I was using. I always thought I had a dog of a telescope and had considered selling it. For some reason I put in a 1.25" Meade prism. You know, the ones they give you when you buy a scope. It was like having a new telescope. Views were crisp and sharp. Stars were pin point refractor like and for once I could see actual festoons on Jupiter and details on Mars.

If your using a SCT then you definitely should be using a prism.
