I agree. Just having a drive can be wonderful. Getting an object centered and relaxing to take in the view is so much better than pushing or turning a knob to get an object to the edge of field, drift, repeat, drift, repeat....
that drift and repeat drives me nuts. Cannot understand why anyone would do that. All we wanted for years was decent drive for the mount. I had an old Edmund mount. single drive. you set it up and for hours the object would stay in view

47 years of doing it i guess. Drives just drive me crazy. They have lag when trying to center with a hand control and some of the cheap mounts have clutch slop and stiction. A butter smooth mount is easy to center stuff at 450x and up. Only time i would use a drive is at pow wows over 600x and since only Dobs take that kind of power i don't have a choice.

there are refractors out there that will handle 600X or more. You just got the be willing to spend the bucks.

There are ones out there. AP advertised their refractors in the 80's to be able to do 600X

Depends on the object. Venus can take 1000x easy.
