Tasco.jpg Tasco10k.jpg Help needed please.

I bought a Tasco 10K Vintage Achromatic Refractor Telescope 80/1200mm in an auction without looking to closely.

Box was rotten, not a proble I built another.

Main problem is it is missing the optic and hood as can be seen in the photo.

I take it finding one would be near impossible so would a chinese 900mm do the job instead?

Go gentle I'm a beginner to the hobby. Or I will be when I can get this vintage telescope up and looking.

That's a Towa 339, which was sold under many different brands. They are fairly common, and well-regarded for optical quality. Somebody here might have a spare objective.

You could go with a Chinese objective, but will want one with a 1200mm focal length unless you are prepared to cut the tube length by 25%. You would also need to 3D print or machine a cell to hold it, with three-point control for tilt so that you can get it properly collimated.

Well this is sort of like a car with no engine.

Maybe it is in the box? The cell assembly is missing. It threads on the open end of the tube.

The only hope is to find a new cell and objective lens assembly. This scope is a Towa model 339.

You could post in the "ask away" thread pinned at the top of this forum and put a wanted ad in the classifieds. Those two things would greatly improve your odds of finding one. (I'm not sure you can post in the classifieds yet, maybe ask a mod if not)

I wish I had a Towa 339 to donate. Unfortunately there is not a realistic alternative, because of the need for the cell. That is likely specific to the scope.
