I have a 12” dob ad12 and the full line of Baader Morpheus eyepieces. While using the Baader eyepieces I need to have an extender in the focuser or there’s not enough travel to focus the image. The issue is the 30mm Apertura eyepiece that came with the scope. With the focuser in I can’t focus because it’s too far out. Is there an adapter available that I can attach to the 30mm so that I can leave the extension on the focuser full time? I doubt it but I thought it worth the ask.

Thanks again in advance

I have an extra adapter for 2" to 1.25" that allows a little more in-focus.

are you using them in 2" mode? I'd just use the morphs in 1.25" mode as the focal plane of morphs is at the shoulder except the 17.5 withch is 2.5mm higher

Obviously using Morpheus in 2” mode, hence needs extension. Could use them as 1.25” to drop extension. But would then need 2”-1.25” adapter. No free lunch. Do you want to swap an extension in and out, or swap an adapter in and out?

Ultimately this is life with a reflector. Reflector has short focus travel. It’s in the design. So these are the things you have to do to make everything reach focus.

You could always attach 2”-1.25” adapters to each of your Morpheus.

You could also try to get fancy and measure how much focus travel you need. Perhaps moving the mirror a couple mm will do it, or perhaps a shorter extension.

I guess I can attach a 2 to 1.25 adapter on the 30mm and use the Morpheus at 1.25.

Uhm, no, sorry, that won’t work. You could use a 32mm Plossl which is 1.25” instead of the 30mm but the view won’t be as wide.

Yeah I’m in guessing I’ll be stuck removing the extension when going back to the 30mm. But I was hoping somebody would know of an adapter I could put and leave on it to avoid adding and removing adapters.

There is such a thing, but it doesn’t work with 2” eyepieces.

The adapter always stays on one of the morphs so removing it is same as removing a 2" eyepiece, it slides out together... and when it's in, the morphs are replaced same as any 2" eyepiece just from the adapter screw vs the main focuser screw... unless I am missing something here I don't understand the issue?

The morphs all come as 2” eyepieces. The 1.25 to 2” is already installed. When using the morphs I need to use a focuser extension to get them to focus. With my 30mm Apertura I can not use the extension bc it won’t come into focus. I was hoping to have an adapter attach to the 30mm full time so I wouldn’t have to swap the focuser adapter basically

What rgk is saying is that you can put 2”-1.25” adapters on your Morpheus eyepieces, which will allow you to reach focus with them without using the extension. This would eliminate swapping the extension in and out. It just means buying a few adapters.

The morph come as both a 2 with a 1.25 built in… I think. I’ve never tried separating them to be sure. But that doesn’t save me anything because the 30mm is 2” so after locating my target with the 2” I’d have put the 2 -1.25 adapter for the now stripped down morph! 😆😆😆 Part of the reason I bought the morphs was because they are all 2”! Oh the irony!
I just don’t like messing with adapters in the dark and was trying to find out if there’s an adapter I could leave on the 30mm to save the step of adding or removing the extension tube.

I only use the 30 mm a as a finder, then add the extension and onto the morphs from there.

Yes, we understand that Morpheus has a built in 2”-1.25” adapter. Don’t try to remove it. But if you use the 2” barrel, you need to use an extension to reach focus. If you put a 2”-1.25” adapter in the focuser, and then put the Morpheus 1.25” barrel in that, you won’t need the extension. We understand this is completely unnecessary. But it gets rid of the extension, which seems to be your objective.

I have the other situation. My 24mm 82 requires an extension to reach focus in my reflectors. So I like using the built in 2” barrels (instead of using a 2”-1.25” adapter) because I can just leave the extension in.

There is such a thing as an in focus adapter, but it can only take eyepieces up to 1.8” wide, because it has to fit inside a 2” focuser. So it won’t work with the 30mm.

Uh, why not use the Morpheus as 1.25" eyepieces?  That is what they are, 1.25" eyepieces.

The 2" machined outer barrel was merely for convenience in some settings.

But all your eyepieces will be closer to the same focus if you use the 30mm as a 2" and the Morpheus EPs as 1.25".

No extension required for either.  Problem solved.

I believe your scope came with a 2" to 1.25" adapter?  Just keep it in your pocket when using the 30mm, and put it back in the focuser for the other eyepieces.
