Conditions here look promising. Predicted to remain clear throughout the event, especially the most impressive parts ≈ 1am > 5am EDT. We're decently dark rural country, which will help appreciate the totality from 2:30-3:30. I'll be using various binoculars with a few family and just leisurely savoring the views from our back deck. The ideally ergo APM 90o ED APO 100mm with 10mm Delos at 55x will give reasonably close up views. The sturdy Manfrotto 161 MK2Tripod and smoothly balanced Binoptic Yoke is ideal because it cranks up and down while maintaining pointing --- so everyone can share in comfort. I won't be imaging because --- I know almost everyone else... elsewhere... will be sweating over that.

My attitude re' observing has morphed over the years and decades. It used to be frenetic and "accomplishing" a lot > admittedly competitive and getting published frequently. That era is left in the dust and, now in retirement --- I just kick back and relax into enjoying looking up. I'm happy in a different way --- and hoping this clarity will persist.    Tom

Nice setup. Enjoy. Looks like I will be clouded out here in NY. Will set my clock and look out the window just in case, but no other prep.

Moon fully visible now, but clouds forecast for SF Bay Area.  I was just

going to handhold binos for a peek.  Hoping for the best.

In IN just waiting.... Scope set up and open - just needs to be used a bit more and hopefully the slightly rushed collimation job will be too much of an issue (blurry planets this evening - mostly atmosphere issues but some could have been collimation - I just cleaned the primary mirror this afternoon).  Also waiting for a Slooh webinar to start - for the eclipse.

I don't know how thick those high clouds to our west are going to be. I might end up abandoning my plans to photograph it and just enjoy the view.

Thin layer of clouds here in south central Minnesota.  The clouds shouldn't be a detriment.  Pleasant temps- currently 53 degrees F (12 C).

Crystal clear night here in west central Florida. I'm in a Bortle 8-9 area due to the Tampa Bay Area light dome, but I've caught lunar eclipses before and they are quite impressive. Here are two shots I took through my antiquated iPhone Se (1st Gen) back in May 2022 (I like the artifacts...). Hoping to see better this time around!

Windy here in SE New Mexico with dust in the air. I am setup and viewing anyway as the moon is clear enough through the scope. I'm about 35 minutes +\- from partial beginning.

Just had some pretty thick cloud cover roll in right as partial phase started. frown.gif

It's been on and off all night; maybe we'll get a break during totality ...

Got a break in the clouds. Has a nice caramel color naked eye but in 16x70 binoculars the color was much subdued.

Agreed. Naked eye it looks like Mars through a scope at 100x (remember that old email that dropped the 100x, claiming Mars to be as big as a full Moon?). Through a 76mm scope the reddishness is very subdued.

Saw it earlier entering the shadow as clouds were coming in.  Completely clouded over in

Bay Area at this point. Jealous of those who can see, enjoy it!
