Hi all, I finally got around to dissembling my vintage C5 to send out the primary and secondary for re coating. I noticed that both the primary and secondary have a cork gasket bonded to the glass. Should I peel that off before I send it out. Also, not sure what I should replace the gasket with.

You will need to peel off any gaskets, adhesive residue, etc or the stuff can outages in the chamber and ruin the coating batch.  To replace, just buy new sheet cork from McMaster and silicone adhesive lightly to back of mirrors and then to holders when you get the glass back.

The circular cork pad on the secondary is really bonded on there. I’m worried that if I try to slice it, I could stress the glass and crack it. I happen to have another secondary from some old parts, but I assume it would be useless as an extra if I break the original.

Can you pre-soak the secondary in a solution of 90% or better alcohol or other cocktail that may soften the adhesive?

I can try that. I are also left a message for the guy who is going to to the re coat. He may have a better way of removing it. I’m sure he’s had to deal with this before.

Success! I removed the cork pad and glue with alcohol and a bit of slicing. I assume they used cork you that temperature changes wouldn’t stress the glass.
