Hi Guys

Complete newbie here, I just bought an orion 150/700 telescope second hand obviously, with it came the oriin all in one camera, this was not listed on the advert and I now know why, I am struggling to find a driver that will work with it, I'm guessing you used to be able to download of the now deleted Orion website. I think the problem may be I am using windows 10? I am just looking for some advice on how if possible to get it to work? I was hoping to use it for tracking. I'm literally less than a week into this new hobby and there is so much to learn, I eventually want to try astrophotography but want to learn as much as I can first. This is probably posted in the wrong area so apologies if it is. And thanks in advance.

Het. Welcome. Pretty certain this is a Touptek manufactured camera. Try the driver and software located here:

Here's a thread that might help.  It does look like the original drivers were for Win 7/8.

If you can't find a driver, the good news is that there are planetary cameras with better specs available new for not much $$.

Depending on whether your imaging interests lie more with DSO or planetary, a mod can move this thread to a better forum.

Just take it slow and get to know your scope by using it visually.  There's plenty of help around here when you have more questions.

And if the x86 driver doesn't do it, maybe someone at Touptek support can point you in the right direction.

If you can only find an older operating system driver, you can install it using the Windows compatibility option.

Right click on the driver and choose Properties. Then click on the Compatibility tab.

Click on Run this program in compatibility mode for:, then click the down arrow and select the desired Windows OS version.

Click Apply and then OK, then run the driver installer.

Hi Spacecase1981, welcome to Cloudy Nights!

This is indeed a no-astrophotography forum so this topic is moving to Beginning Deep Sky Imaging. Please let us know about your interests in using this camera.

Hi, thanks for the replies I will try to see if it works tommorow, as for my interest in this camera, if I'm honest I wasn't interested in it at all until it came as part of the telescope bundle which was a surprise, now I've researched the camera I am now interested in using it as a guide for my GO TO mount, I'm only a few days into this hobby and I can already see this is going to get expensive lol. I am interested in the photography side of things also but that will come later, for now I am just enjoying looking at the sky, I just saw jupiter and the moons for the first time, quite a surreal experience. I've not looked at any DSO yet but I'm guessing I would struggle as I'm in a bortle 5 area? Look at me using all these new words 🤣 If I can't get the camera drivers to work what would you guys suggest for a camera that I could use for photos of the planets and as a guide/tracker for my GO TO mount.

Hey Spacecase. Can you clarify which telescope you have specifically? Is it a 700mm focal length with a 150mm aperture (f/4.7)? Or is it 750mm focal length (f/5)? A Newtonian?

My first astro camera was an Orion G3 color camera.

I fought that camera for a year and a half, sent it in for repairs twice in the first year.

Finally, a friend made me an offer I couldn't refuse, he loaned me one of his Atik Cameras, an Infinity color camera. Instant success from the first image the first night.

It wasn't something I was doing, my troubles was the Orion camera.

It is long gone now, but the cooling fan from it lives in my vent system for my telescope/mount cover.

I would recommend you get a newer, different camera. Do yourself a favor.

Your Orion camera is a dead horse. BeatingADeadHorse.gif

I needed to finally replace my first Orion guide camera finally last year.

I wanted to improve my guiding and got an ASI290MM, which is a mono camera, but was also advertised as being a planetary camera, too. I just wanted a better guide camera for my equipment. Higher resolution.

So, you can get cameras that will double for multi uses.

The ASI 290 isn't available anymore new. I believe it has been superseded by the ASI220.

Yes, here's a page about it for you.

But often Guide Cameras can also be used as Planetary Cameras.

Welcome to Cloudy Nights!

Yes I'm beginning to think it is a dead horse as I've now seen how old the camera is. As mentioned it was basically thrown in with the scope so cost nothing. If I could get it working at least I could have a play around with it and get familiar with some of the software. There is so much to learn and no one really to learn from I've looked for astronomy clubs near me but drawing a blank.

See if it can work with AstroDMx, it's quite capable of working with just about any camera.
