Hello Everyone,
I'm planning to make a stray light shield for my ES 12" UL. I find hints that its length should be in the range of 1-1.5 x the telescope aperture. OK, but the question is what the minimum diameter of the shield hole should be, assuming that I make it 1 x the aperture, i.e. about 12-13".

Best regards,
Przemek Jordan

I made mine from brass to match the scopes, and they are roughly 1.5x the diameter of the lens. I made them to fit the outside diameter of the cell, which seemed to be the easiest way to mount them.

you can make a proto-type out of very cheap materials to see what works best for your situation.

black poster board, black craft foam. maybe corregated plastic if you score the outside every few inches, but I have not tried that.

I have used poster board and black craft foam.

Take a cloth tape measure and measure around the end.  Boom now you know the circumference
