Hi everyone, I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere, but I have searched pretty hard but not finding exactly what I'm looking for.
I would like to use Celestron's StarSense for SkyWatcher autoalignment setup on my Orion SkyQuest XXg 14" Dobsonian with SynScan v4 hand controller.
On the celestron listing here https://www.celestro...-watcher-mounts it says, "Compatible Sky-Watcher Mounts: HEQ5 | EQ6 | AZ-EQ5 | AZ-EQ6 | EQ8 | AZ SynScan compatible mounts"
In other reading, I have found that Orion and SkyWatcher that used SynScan were both manufactured by Synta and are the same scopes with different paint and stickers and you can even flash firmware on the Orion from https://skywatcher.c...nload/software/.
So, the hope is that my telescope falls in the "AZ SynScan compatible mounts" category.
Since I couldn't find anyone who has tried this before, I figured I'd give it a shot. So, I ordered the StarSense, got it and plugged it in. Didn't work
The error I get on the celestron HC is:
"The telescope model could not be read and initialization cannot proceed"
I have upgraded the celestron firmware on the HC and Camera while it was connected to the telescope hoping that maybe some mounts were added in a later version. The upgrades were successful but same error, which I saw coming because the celestron FW upgrade software didn't see my mount.
So, has anyone tried this? Does it definitely not work or is there anything I can do to make it work?
I'm actually pretty quick at alignment, but not very precise. Usually when I use the GoTo, my target is just outside of the field of view. From the reviews, it seems this will put the target dead on center, which would be awesome.
Thanks for any help.
