I know my SS will work without it but it would probably work better with it.

I think it worked before I installed the new SS app on my tablet to prepare for EQ mode.

My SS works so its using the bluetooth and the SS wi-fi. Station mode is off. Will it use both at once or did I screw something up?

One thing I noticed was the SS can only be connected to one app at a time. I can't have it on my phone and the tablet at the same time.

When I use my phone with the Seestar my phone uses my cell service for internet automatically because the Seestar is using the wifi. I don't have cell service on my tablet, so no internet when I use it. It doesn't seem to work any different with or without internet. I prefer to use my tablet because of the larger screen, about the only time I use my phone is if I'm not at home.

Unless you have a cellular tablet or use station mode with your Seestar, you only have a single WiFi connection and that is to the Seestar, so no Internet. But the Seestar doesn't need an internet connection function.

The only thing you lose is the weather report on the Seestar, but you can always look at the sky. If you can see the stars it's clear. If you can't it's cloudy. And if you're getting wet, it's either raining or snowing and you should probably pick up and go inside. See, the weather report isn't necessary!

My tablet can be used as a phone I don't use it for that. lol . I don't think the ss needs a wi-fi at all except for the weather and probably the tutorials, which is what I should watch. Guess I will wait till I am not using the SS for viewing. I was thinking there might have been something else I was missing but if that is all I won't worry about it.

Yes you don’t need access to the internet while using your SeeStar. I often use my SeeStar away from home with my tablet. My tablet, though, doesn’t have GPS so I typically use my phone to start imaging and then simply switch over to my tablet to see things on the larger screen.

If you have a wifi only tablet without cell phone access or gps, how does the SS know where it is?  In other words, lets say I drive 500 miles south of my home and set up the SS.  How will it know the location since it can't get it from the tablet via GPS or the cell phone network?  I know I can manually input the lat/long, BTW.

Once you connect to your Seestar for the first time, it doesn't need Bluetooth.

If your Seestar is in range of your home WiFi network, turn on station mode. That way, you'll be connecting to it through your home WiFi network instead of directly and you will have Internet access on your phone/tablet.

You used to be able to connect multiple devices to the Seestar at the same time, but not anymore.

My telescopes have trouble connecting to my WiFi when they're outdoors, because of the location of my access point. I have an extender that serves to both extend my WiFi network and has a hardwired ethernet port to plug in the ASIAir on my other telescope. You might consider something like that.

I thought that was the way it worked but it seems like my WAP (Older Apple Airport) rejects all attempts by the Seestar to connect to it. I know how to allow MAC addresses to connect to the WAP but for some reason it seems to hate the Seestar. Tried it with both tablet (No cellular) and cell phone. No love for Seestar by Airport. For the same reason I couldn't get ALP to connect.

I find with WiFi I have to bite the bullet and upgrade every few years or I run into stuff like this. I think Apple discontinued Airport 7-8 years ago (?). I think you'd be pleased with a current model from a reputable manufacturer like ASUS or Netgear.

Thanks much for the suggestion. I didn't realize Airport was quite so EOL. I'm of the school "if it ain't broke don't fix it", but I come by it honestly as an old school Unix admin. In any case I think you're right and Firewalla just happens to have a new WAP I've been eying. Thanks again.
