After seeing Groom's callout on a flare and others saying they might be clouded out all day, I started looking for a break in the heavy grey clouds above Canberra. Had a very brief opening and, naturally, this was at meridian and the scope was not tracking. Only time for one quick drifting capture attempt before clouds again closed over. Result was a blurry whole disc image which I savagely cropped to a square just around the big prom and have posted it first.
That looked like it. But then 25 minutes before I had to catch the bus for the school pick up, I could see that the cloud front was eventually going clear the sun,,,but would it do so in time??
Down to about 10 minutes to go, seems to be virtually cleared. Fire up the laptop, but no image on firecapture even with gain turn up...oh forgot I had put the cap on the end in case of rain. D*mn (large body of water)!!, And after sitting outside for hours since the last attempt, tuning was well and truly out. Not much time left at all, do a quick hasty tune and rushed capture (stuffed up the FOV a bit cutting into the prom). Well I've got something, now quick pack up and catch that bus!
