Maybe this topic has been discussed here before , if not , i found an info that resolves the problem of having to constantly re-ajust the thumb screws on a finder scope.

On my scopes, when i take them out , i have to re-ajust the finder scope with the 2 thumb screws , because the ''spring thumb knob'' always allow the finder to

move when i remove the protective caps on the finder. It was annoying to re-do everything in the dark after adjusting it in day light.

I removed the spring knob and replaced it with a M8X1.25 screw , using  a tap of the same size. I just finished adjusting them a few minutes ago and they don't

move anymore!

When i bought the little svbony raci finder on amazon , i went in the reviews below and that is where i found that info.

I used  phillips screws , but i plan to go to a machine shop and buy a couple of black screw with grooves around the knob , like the existing adjust screws on the finder

so they won't slip when i tightened them.

Called hex socket head cap screws, knurled. Think about stainless if you expect long life as SS doesn't rust easily. Also a little easier to see at night. Good fix you have there.

Socket head cap screws, actually.  SHCS.

Takes an allen wrench

A hex head would have 6 flats and take an end wrench or  a 6/12 point socket drive

You were close :)

Good morning everyone,

My experience with a new finder scope was somewhat the same. While I could adjust the finder scope I did not have a way to lock the setting in place. So I replaced the bolts with ones that are longer which gives me enough thread to install locking nuts.

What size are they?  I have a bunch (200) of 10-32 Nylon thumbscrews.  They seem to be interchangeable with the M5 0.8's that are used on many finders. If they would work for you, I could put a few in an envelope and send them along.

What I have done to solve the problem with the moving finder is to drill and tap and 10-32 hole next to the spring assembly.  I loosen it to make the coarse adjustments and do the final adjustments with the three screws.
