G'day all,

FYI, I recently released my summary test report on the new Optolong L-Para filter.  It essentially replaces the L-eNhance and L-eXtreme, and is made to perform well over a broad range of f-ratios.  It is a direct competitor to the IDAS NBZ-II.  You can read my report at the link below.

Cheers,

Jim,

Great review, thanks for writing this up! I was never happy with the star-bloat with my L-Enhance filter, and moved to the L-Ultimate. It looks like the L-Para does a better than the L-Extreme, but how do you think it compares to the narrower band L-Ultimate (which costs more)?

Clear skies!

Ben

Hi Ben,

In terms of contrast increase the L-Para (10nm pass bands) performs significantly below the L-uLtimate (3nm pass bands).  By my predictions the L-Para increases contrast on faint Halpha-rich nebulosity by 2031% from a NELM +2.9 sky (urban Bortle 9+), and the L-uLtimate increases contrast by 4037% ... so like double the contrast increase.  The L-Para does a better job at subduing halos than the L-uLtimate, and is much less sensitive to optics speed.

Cheers,

Jim T.
