Okay so I know this sounds stupid but I feel like I'm missing a piece of the mount for a Tasco I was gifted used from a family friend. The mount won't close around the telescope and I don't know how else to lock the screw in place. I've tried looking in the manual for information but it wasn't there and I can't find a photo online of the mount in high enough resolution. If anyone happens to own this scope can you just send a photo of where the mount closes, it looks like there should be some nut or something stopping it from just swinging open, but I don't know if I'm just stupid or something.

I found a photo on eBay and it looks like a 2-piece clamp that works with the thumb screw.  It sounds like you have one half and the screw but not the other half?  Can you post a photo of what you have?

This should work. This is all I got with the clamp

Wait I apologize I'm stupid I was looking at it the wrong way. I've been fiddling with it for hours and I couldn't figure out just to reverse it

I don't think you're missing anything.  It just looks like the original bolt was lost and replaced with one that's too long so you can't keep the clamp closed tight.  (?)

Find a bolt and wingnut combo that's shorter and you should be fine.

EDIT:

I've been fiddling with it for hours and I couldn't figure out just to reverse it

I'm not seeing what needs to be reversed either.  But if you've figured out what you need to do, that's all that matters!  (Maybe the nut can't turn fully on that side?)

Looks good --- if the bolt turns out to be too long could just add washers.

Re' "I know its stupid buttt..." --- we're actually all stupid here, so you're in good company. We're just well-practiced at pretending that we're smart. Eventually we go blind looking at the sun too much --- at that point we become leaders or run for office.    Tom

The good thing, you figured it out.  We've all been there..
