Hello Cloudy Nighters, Diane here.  I am writing to let all of you know and to make a public announcement to the astronomy community in regards to our company Backyard Observatories.  Scott and I have been building our roll-off roof observatories since 2003 and are so grateful to the people we have worked with and met along the way.  We have been able to travel this wonderful country, seeing sights and meeting amazing folks all along the way.

Scott suffered a stroke recently and while he is on the mend, we have had to come to the realization that for at least a time, we will not be able to do any observatory builds.

We are still offering all our mail order items, ie. building plans, motors, rollers, and piers.  The mail order business will continue and prayerfully we can return to building observatories once again.  We have gotten behind on e-mails and we are working diligently to get caught up and will be in touch.  Please bear with us.

This has been an agonizing decision and I do apologize for the lack of response.  Our world was turned upside-down and we are working to make it right again.

Clear skies,

Diane and Scott Horstman

This is sad news indeed, first for you and your husband, and second for your company.

I’ve never hired you, but have you in mind for the future, if things go well and you’re able to build once again.

Best wishes for you both…

Wishing Scott a fully recovery and hoping that your business is not impacted too much.

Oh my!
I do hope Scott is on the mend. Been a while since we chatted!  The kids are fine. Jonathan lives overseas. Zhenya and the girls are still local.
Tell Scott I said Hi!

Thank you Tim and Carl!  Your kind words mean a lot to us.

(Carl, hug those kids that are near and give our best to Jonathan.)
