Curious how they stack up. I've had mine for 3.5 years and have found it to be visually excellent, but I'm curious how it performs “in the lab".

3.5 years old. Hmm. Well, if you are happy with it, why does it matter? Just enjoy it.

But if you wish to pursue, if you go to the permanent link at top of the refractor homepage SVX telescopes have been tested and discussed. Not the 140 in particular, but the SVX series and how Stellarvue had been made and tested.

BTW. CNers will happy do a DPAC test on your scope if asked.

Mostly curious if I can relate what I’m seeing to the test results, if that makes sense. More of a learning experience than anything.

Curiosity within the context of the larger learning experience is the single best reason to take a dive into testing optics - especially if your someone like me who has zero interest in actually making a lens or a mirror.

Its a wobbly stack from starlight to focal plane.  And there is an additional layer of complexity:  all light is not created equal - different wavelengths behave differently as they pass through glass.  If you grasp the fundamentals of this behavior and how various aberrations detract from the view, you'll never wonder if the reason for the subpar views is the bad seeing or the optics.

I will say that I've never heard of a bad SVX140.  A friend who I see 3 or 4 times a year images with one and it seems fantastic.

Curiosity disposed of the feline, did it not?
