This image focuses mainly on the "jellyfish" portion of the nebula and does not capture the extent of the full supernova remnant in the field of view.  The framing of the jellyfish tight to the edge is intended to enhance the visual effect of the filament "reaching" away from the jellyfish's head, towards the other end of the frame and the remainder of the SNR, outside the FOV.  To build the visual effect, I began with an HOO mix modified to add 10% of Ha to the green channel and the Sii value in excess of the Sii median value to the red channel, thus creating a sort of "Sii highlight" effect in red wherever the Sii signal was particularly strong.  I did this in preference to a traditional SHO or Foraxx blend because I tried both and didn't particularly care for the coloration which resulted compared to what a basic HOO blend gave me, but I still wanted to make use of the Sii data since it gives the image additional depth and detail.  I then boosted the red and blue channels via NarrowbandNormalization to achieve more or less the coloration seen here.  As always, the RGB stars are processed separately and screened in as the final step.

Thanks for looking and clear skies!

Kyle

Excellent result, great definition of the cloud structures!  One of the clearest I’ve seen and I’m glad you kept the colors more natural.  I prefer that to those burnt orange versions.

I was looking at your Astrobin, we have been shooting some of the same targets: Jellyfish, SH2-290, tadpoles…. With everything else being different, lol…

Thank you so much Steven!  I just had a look at your astrobin and I really loved https://app.astrobin...eJetty?i=wrfowz with the color mixed with the Ha.  I'm planning to do a number of these dark nebula + Ha targets with my FSQ-85 in the next year, which I will be swapping onto the pier and taking my AP-130 home in a month or so when it finishes the last two targets of the season.  I've never done much with the dusty dark nebulae and I'm really looking forward to doing something new.  One day I'll get a full frame camera and the reducer for the AP-130, but for now the FSQ-85 with the APS-C will have to do because the astro fund has been depleted for a while! lol.gif

Clear skies!
