I recently acquired an ES ED127 that came equipped with a 8x50 finder for which the battery(ies) are missing.  Could someone respond with the battery type and quantity for the illuminator?  ES phone assistance seems unavailable.  Thanks!

Thank you, but it's a different finder than that.  It seems to take a button battery or two into a holder that is at a right angle to the finder with apparently a brightness adjustment knob at the top of the battery holder.  Sorry I don't know how to upload a photo.  No model number on the finder, only Explore Scientific and optical specs. The ED127 that it belongs to is an early version with a reversable dew shield.

In my experience, the "standard" illuminators will work with nearly any combination of button cell batteries, such as LR44, as long as they fit, since the most you can get in there are 3x 1.5v = 4.5v, and that seems to be in spec.

However, I use a single CR1 3v lithium battery, this one: https://a.co/d/81w7WnC

Clear skies,

Paul

Why don't you post a picture of that battery compartment ? If you can't figure how to upload a picture to your computer, use google to find one that looks really similar. This would give us a chance to more reliably tell you what batteries to buy.

With all this stuff - there are just so many variants and versions out there, any speculation on our part would just be a wild guess. Just look at how different these illuminators can be:

The last version of the straight finder with the double AAA "pole" jutting out, I would never have guessed something like that would exist. So never assume "that's gonna be LR41's, cuz anything longer does not make sense, right ?".

triplemon - I haven't learned yet how to post a photo on CN, but I opened the links you were kind to share and found my exact match in the Bresser link.  It gave the battery spec as two ea. LR41 and that was just what I needed.  Thanks to all.
