I am thinking about doing the concrete pour soon, but the summer heat is beginning to set in. Once the daytime temps reach 90+ F, they will not come back down until October. If I use floodlights at night, and I start at 1 am, I might be able to finish mixing and pouring 60 bags before 10 am.

I am an early riser, especially in the summer to beat the heat, summers here are nothing compared to yours, today may get close to 90, so I am ready to get moving. Good luck with your plan.

We are in the middle of a heat wave here in the Northeast, how is your project going? I can see how the heat would discourage you. It really is difficult to accomplish a project like this when it is hot and humid. Do you have humidity there? I would be surprised if you do.

you can retard the set of concrete with an admixture.  You can stop the set of concrete with an admixture.  According to Caltrans, cast-in-place pilings should be poured at a 6" slump.  If you have a concrete supply store nearby, they can get you the proper admixtures if you want a flowable, retarded mix.

"Eh, concrete company still wanted too much just to buy and deliver the concrete, so I am prepping to mix and pour myself. First will be the pier foundation which will use about sixty 50-pound bags. I can only transport 20 bags at a time so it will take three trips into town. I still need to prep the rebar and hold down bolt template.

Back saver hint: unload bags from truck directly to raised platform, then into mixer."

My suffering with the 27 bags per pier, 3 piers are still nightmarish to me.  High humidity and 90 plus temp are not for an old dude like me. . . . .

Sorry to hear about your brother, I'd wondered where you'd been.
