Not for that much money by a mile. You can get a new AT150EDL that is much better for 1k more. But better buy soon.

The last post in last months thread was about this 80mm AP guide scope
https://www.cloudyni...f11-guidescope/
BomberBob said it's a Mizar, but I'm not so sure about that?
The focuser looks like a Nihon Seiko and the objective cell doesn't appear to have collimation screws as Mizar do.
I tried to get this but was second in line. Those come with inner rings that protect the tube from the aiming screws.

The photos don't match the listing. If the photos are correct looks like a Cave 8" OTA with some sort of guide scope.

I drove to Fremont to pick up another CI-700 but forgot all about this one.

Price reduced on 12-1/2" Cass, or DK set:

Too bad he already sold off the primary mirror mount, focuser, and the secondary holder and spider. But that's what happens when scopes get parted out.
Sure has a large chunk of glass chipped off the central hole.
He says it's in the shadow of the secondary, but that does not prevent off-axis light from reflecting off the clamchip to the secondary and into the eyepiece, I think.

I know, so he says. In my guesstimation, I'd say his small sliver is about 1/2" outside the shadow of the secondary.

Cometron CO-60E, Colorado Springs, CO. $175!
Tripod is nice but not at that Price.

A good ad for someone that admits knowing nothing about the scope. Nice pictures, ballpark price, probably take less if a flipper.
The pictures do an excellent job of showing the major differences between the Cometron series and Celestron's regular Vixen series. Seems a lot of people don't know the Cometron series was an economy offering to compete with the Halley's Comet rush. The tripod, mount, and OTA all have reduced aspects well displayed. I haven't even seen a posting on CN show this so well.
Mostly just a heads up to let people know there is a difference.

A lot of them were NS sourced

So do the Mizar GT Series -- the liners are bundled with the Rings...

I guess my point is that there really is no “shadow” at all because there is always off-axis light landing on it. And because the surface of the clam chip is not controlled, there will likely be some unintentional amount of light reflections reaching the eyepiece.

You can black out the clam.
I've recently done 2 with Testors flat black model paint. I like it best because it's thick and sticks good.
The bottom mirror is a ultra low expansion ceramic, Astrositall, it chips just like glass!
Speaking of clams a clam sandwich is starting to sound pretty good for dinner

That is really a great deal. I don't need it, but if it were close to me, I would get it.

I'm just trying to dispel the myth of the secondary shadow.

This happens to decent microscopes all the time. Sometimes, one objective lens is worth more than the entire body.

I'm just trying to dispel the myth of the secondary shadow.
I'd have sacrificed a little of the surface area and done an even ring to mask-out the chip.

Once the tariffs hit the new stuff, prices on the used will follow. Used C8s are a lot more expensive than they were two years ago I noticed.

Classic Edmund 4 inch F 15 from one of us right here in the classics
NEAF Pick up got to love NEAF pick up opportunities for Longfellow refractors like this
https://www.cloudyni...unt-and-tripod/
Chip also has a nice Jaegers 6 inch F 5 for sale and Neaf pick up
I liked the sliding-locking drawtubes on scopes like Unitron, very fast to achieve focus, no need to worry about the focal ratio of the scope.

Celestron 102mm fluorite on Facebook at noticeably high price, probably because of the Moonlite focuser and superfluous stepper motor.
