Going back on topic: over in the ap-ug a few days ago Roland posted an image on Astrobin taken with an AP155GS. When asked about the “typo” (GS not CS), Roland teased “not a typo”question.gif

Dean’s had some great guesses, so Gauss Superachromat is as good as any. I viewed the photo in Astrobin and scrolled down and found “155CS” and not “155GS.” So maybe Roland corrected it and “no typo” is nothing more than playful humor.

I think he was teasing "Gauss" Superachromat. It's changed back to 155CS:  https://app.astrobin.com/i/pgty95

Yeah, Sandy has been harping on this for what seems like years now.  Hopefully he'll be moving on to something else soon.

Sandy is a woman.

I told my self at age 14 i would try em all. Long as i am kicking i will be buying.

But it's the comparisons that are important, you should have kept then all...  ;)

Different folks, different strokes

Got that right folks. Only death will stop the buying.

I wonder when we will hear more about this scope.  It has been a couple of months now since NEAF and no word as to price or availability for either the 155 or the 190.  If I recall correctly people who were at NEAF said that the 155 was in production...  So I thought we would hear something by now.

Anyone hear anything more about this scope?

Then owning an AP scope isn't a priority for you, and that's a totally reasonable position; but if you really want one, for your own personal satisfaction and enjoyment, you don't have very many options: If you've been on one of the AP wait lists for 20+ years, you may get a notification; or you can participate in the AP lottery notification if something opens up; or you can buy used and pay market price.

All of the options have their down-sides, but there's only one that you really have any active control over and that's going with the used market. Unfortunately, the used market prices reflect the relative rarity and desirability of the AP scopes, so they're typically a few k$ higher than the original AP sale price, at least for the newer models; and crazy high for some of the never to be done again models.

I don't need an AP scope to enjoy this hobby but I want one, and I'm at that point in life where I can (finally) afford it and still enjoy using it in my observatory or in the field -- So, I'll get it new from AP if possible or used if I can't get it from AP....
