I was thinking the same that having a dual camera set-up could be used for tracking. The wide angle is going to be so wide though, I don't think it will help to guide any more precisely when using the telephoto. You could probably use the telephoto to help guide the wide... but the wide is so wide that the mount is likely good enough without tracking...

All the same, I'm still excited about it!

I don’t expect ZWO to do anything so complicated as using either camera for guiding the other. I anticipate their tracking to use the same system and algorithms that they’ve been using all along. It works reasonably well, and it keeps costs low.

Buying the S50 led me to start building a beginner's astrophotography rig to see if that's a direction I want to go. It will be very interesting to see the S30 Pro and what it's capability's are. Looking forward to what's in the future.

I'm going to guess closer to $1000. New quadruplet optics, larger sensor, new -res sensor for the second camera, 4X the memory, NFC. All of that is gonna cost at least twice the base S30.

But I could be wrong...

They are speculating the new S70 will be around $1000 dollars, so the S30 pro probably $550 ish I reckon.

Who are they? If it isn't from ZWO, it's total speculation. I mean, it could be right, but all that means is they somebody guessed correctly.

One would hope, but ZWO missed that sales window with the S30, so....

Judging by the comments ZWO made at NEAF, one would have thought that the S30 Pro was just about ready for prime time and we would be able to pre-order one last month.

Well, that didn't happen, and unfortunately there haven't been any updates since.

I wonder if the reason is technological, logistical, or economic?

Inquiring minds want to know!

There was no indication at NEAF that the S30 Pro was going to be released within the next few months. They didn’t attach any date for release. In my discussions with Simon and others on the floor, it was clear that this was a real product; however, they were also seeking to gauge interest in such a product as they explore how to build out the product lineup.

Sony did the same thing several years ago when they were developing and introducing their (then) brand new mirrorless cameras.

I thought they said they would be taking preorders in June. NEAF was the beginning of April. They are definitely behind schedule according to what I remember.

Here's the video mentioned by Airstrike:

Around 7:42 Simon mentions "we think pre-orders... around June" and "delivery... later on in the year".

Something must have happened to change their plans.

Thanks for sharing that slide. Very interesting. It’s a bit different than what he said in their booth. He seemed reluctant to place a date on the release.
